The National Standards for “Enterprise Intellectual Property Management” (the Standards), jointly drafted by the State Intellectual Property Office and the National Institute of Standardization and then published by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China, have been in effect since 1 March 2013.

The Standards provide a process and method-based enterprise intellectual property (IP) management model for Mainland enterprises (including Hong Kong-invested enterprises in Guangdong) to guide them in the planning, implementation, inspection and improvement of their IP management systems.

The Standards aim to help well-managed enterprises in demand for such to establish an IP management system that suits their own development needs and characteristics. Through inspections made in the internal audit process, enterprises will be able to achieve pre-determined targets and make continuous improvements to the system with a view to raising their overall IP management standard, which in turn will enhance their competitive edge.

Moreover, enterprises may, through an external audit by the third-party certification bodies, obtain a certificate confirming their compliance with the Standards. This will help enhance the enterprises’ credibility among the Mainland community and build a good image for them.

The IP Offices in Guangdong Province organise training programmes on enterprise intellectual property management to enable enterprises in the Guangdong Province (including Hong Kong-invested enterprises there) to have a fuller and deeper understanding of the Standards for effective implementation.
